The result is a kennel that withstands sustained force from powerful dogs, resists deformation from impacts, and lasts 20+ years in outdoor conditions without structural degradation.

Most heavy-duty outdoor kennels include a roof or are designed to accept one. A roof is essential for heavy-duty applications — it prevents climbing escapes, provides weather protection, and completes the structural integrity of the kennel. Our heavy-duty models ship with either solid galvanized steel roof panels (for full rain/snow/sun protection) or heavy-gauge welded wire mesh tops (for escape prevention with maximum airflow). Solid roof panels are rated for 30+ lbs per square foot of snow load.

For dogs over 80 lbs or breeds known for strength and determination — Rottweilers, German Shepherds, Pit Bull types, Mastiffs, and Huskies — heavy-duty construction is strongly recommended. Standard 11-gauge chain-link can deform under sustained pressure from a 90+ lb dog leaning, pushing, or running into panels. Heavy-duty 9-gauge welded wire and reinforced framing withstand these forces without bending or separating at connection points. Even for medium-sized dogs that are aggressive chewers or escape artists, heavy-duty construction prevents the panel damage that leads to escape.

For coastal areas with salt air, stainless steel hardware at all connection points prevents the accelerated corrosion that standard zinc-plated hardware experiences.
